The CSIR International Convention Centre (CSIR ICC) joined the rest of the world in commemorating Nelson Mandela International day by giving its time and resources to a charity in Mamelodi, Tshwane. Mandela Day as popularly known is a day to celebrate the late South African president, Nelson Mandela and his humanitarian work, by giving back to communities in need. The CSIR ICC strives to align itself with community initiatives that assist the youth who are our future. Child Welfare Tshwane Mamelodi is a Charity Home that offers daily balanced meals and homework support to over 160 local underprivileged children.

“I am very happy for the children and for the donation from the CSIR ICC. What is even more pleasing is that the CSIR ICC staff took time from their busy schedules to come and entertain our children, said Anastacia Mosehla, Child Welfare Tshwane Mamelodi: Social Auxiliary Worker.

The Convention Centre also handed over conference bags and stationary, for the children to use for school, items that delegates and clients have generously donated via the donation box that the ICC has placed in its foyer for surplus conference material. The CSIR ICC chefs cooked delicious hearty soup for the children which staff then dished up for the children.

“We thank our clients and delegates who heed our call to donate surplus conference material to aid children who need these items. We also thank the Child Welfare Tshwane Mamelodi staff for the exceptional work they do for our community, explains Refilwe Nchebisang, CSIR ICC Marketing Coordinator.
