The CSIR ICC continues to contribute to capacity development in South Africa by annually taking in two in-service trainees studying towards their Food and Beverage or Hospitality Management diplomas at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

Current trainees Dichaba Dichaba and Makhosazane Sangweni are both in their third year studying Hospitality Management through TUT and will be training at the CSIR ICC for six months to complete the diploma.

"I've worked at other organisations before but none has the amazing 'family culture' that the CSIR ICC has," says an exuberant Dichaba Dichaba. "I even get to chat a little with the General Manager once in a while."

Makhosazane Sangweni compares the Centre to a school that adds value and the necessary knowledge to enable in-service trainees to finalise their studies.

Glenn Harding, General Manager of the CSIR ICC states that the Centre believes in giving previously disadvantaged students a platform to gain first-hand experience and exposure to the corporate industry.

"To date, we've accommodated 20 trainees, some of whom were employed by the Centre on completion of their studies," he says.
